Chapter 18 - The Endocrine System - Checkpoint - Page 642: 20

Answer

The adrenal medulla can be thought of as a large sympathetic (ANS) ganglion of postsympathetic neurons --minus axons and dendrites. Preganglionic fibers penetrate the adrenal cortex and synapse with the medullary neurons. The adrenal medulla and the sympathetic arm of the ANS are essentially part of a single system

Work Step by Step

The adrenal medulla synthesizes and releases catecholamine hormones/neurotransmitters. The main ones are epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine ( small amount).
