In adults hGH performs several functions-- maintenance of bone and muscle mass; stimulation of lipolysis, and stimulation of glucose uptake by tissues. However, excess glucose in the blood can have adverse effects. Human growth hormone induces the local secretion of insulin-like growth factors which stimulate glycogenolysis.
