A dark yellow ( or amber ) color of a urine sample would raise my suspicion , but it would not necessarily indicate a pathologic problem. An ammonia-like odor would raise my suspicions; normal urine odor should be aromatic. Albumin amounts of more than 150 mg per ml would indicate a problem; more than 5 epithelial casts would be suspicious; a pH of 5.5 would be perfectly normal. Hematuria is usually an undesirable finding but three or less than 3 RBCs is a normal finding.
