Proteins are synthesized by the RER and presented to the golgi apparatus at the entrance face of the golgi body. The newly synthesized proteins pass through the middle cisternae where they are modified , packaged and tagged ( with polysaccharides) ,and then passed out in vesicles from the of the exit face of the golgi for different destinations-- for example the plasma membrane, secretory vesicles, or lysosomes.
