Answer
a.The adjective obturator is derived from the latin verb obturare(Spanish obturar) which means to block, stop up, or clog ( pug or obstruct). The obturator foramen(opening) is so named because in life this opening is almost completely closed by a membrane known as the obturator membrane.
b. The following are joints formed by the articulation of the hip bones with other bones:
1. The sacroiliac joint: formed by the sacrum and the ilium
2.Coxa-femoral; formed between a coxal bone and a femur
*. The pubis symphysis: this is really between one coxal bone and another coxal bone.
Work Step by Step
The obturator foramen is a ovoid space in the pelvis bounded by parts of the pubis and the ischium. It is almost completely covered by the obturator membrane. The obturator canal is the uncovered gap through which pass the obturator artery, the obturator vein and the obturator nerve on their way from pelvis to thigh.
The two hip bones articulate at the pubis symphysis. The coxae also form joints with the sacrum and the head of the femur.
