Answer

The estrogen rises before the start of ovulation while the progesterone level rises after ovulation. Progesterone level rises on the luteal phase of the ovarian cycle and secretory phase of uterine cycle. Both hormones stimulate the uterus and the breast to prepare for possible pregnancy and development of embryo. When the progesterone level drops, menstrual occurs.
