Transcription is the process by which DNA is used as a template to create a complementary RNA molecule. During transcription, an enzyme called RNA polymerase binds to the DNA and moves along the template strand, adding nucleotides to the growing RNA chain. Once transcription is complete, the RNA molecule is modified and transported out of the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where it is used as a template for protein synthesis. This process, called translation, involves the use of ribosomes and transfer RNA molecules to read the sequence of the RNA and assemble a specific sequence of amino acids to form a protein.
