The disorder of the large intestine can affect homeostasis because the absorption of water and other mineral ions is not properly regulated. In the case of diarrhea, the body is not able to absorb water because the system initiates the expulsion of infectious organisms, thus may lead to dehydration. Another example is constipation. Constipation results in difficulty in defecation due to dry and hard feces. The dryness is caused by the reabsorption of water in the feces due to irregular defecation, which may lead to the development of hemorrhoids.
