Double bonding provides the flexibility to plasma membrane as follows: a. Unsaturated fatty acids (having double bonds) have smaller length as compared to saturated fatty acids, which contributes to flexibility of the membrane b. Double bonds introduce 'kinks' to the fatty acid structure, which makes membrane more fluid and hence more flexible. c. Unsaturated fatty acids have lower melting points as compared to saturated fatty acids, hence they can help membrane keep fluid in lower temperatures.
