Phagocytic cells include microglia, macrophages and dendritic cells. The function of the phagocytes is to engulf the foreign pathogens. These cells make up the second line of defense. They are named according to the site they are present in the body. Dendritic cells are phagocytes present in the skin, alveolar macrophages in the lung and microglial cells in the nervous system. Goblet cells are not phagocytic cells.
