Erysipelas is a form of cellulitis but it is different from it in such a way that it only affects the upper dermis and superficial lymph nodes. Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection that can rapidly progress and result in the death of body's soft tissue. It is characterized by fever, vomiting, pain and red or purple skin in the involved area.
