The major cause of bacterial pharyngitis (inflammation of pharynx) is group A Streptococcus. It is usually found on the skin and throat. It can spread through nasal secretions of an infected person. Clinical features include malaise, fever, redness of the back of the throat, headache and swelling of lymph nodes.
