There is no effective vaccine against gonorrhea because the bacteria that causes gonorrhea, Neisseria gonorrhoeae has highly variable surface antigens. Hence, long term immunity cannot be acquired against the bacteria. The immunity developed against one strain cannot protect people against other varying strains. The presence of varying strains has prevented the development of an effective vaccine.
