In general, desalination is a process by which water is obtained from an aqueous solution of salt, whereby the product does not have to be completely pure water, but drinking water with a relatively low concentration of salt concentrations (> 500 mg/l). Distillation is a procedure that separates the ingredients of a mixture based on different boiling points. As a result of heating, evaporation, and condensation, fresh water is obtained from seawater. Distillation procedures are characterized by the multiple utilization of the captured energy (repeating the cycle of evaporation - condensation) and high heat of evaporation, which means that large amounts of heat are exchanged during distillation. As a rule, distillation plants are built next to thermal power plants (cooling tanks) which are part of an economical dual-purpose system.
