The description of the beast
In the first page of the novel, the author uses similes to describe the beast that Ozi and his ferals were chasing. The author uses similes such as,''...black fur like a fancy lady's coat ,'' and ,''...teeth like those of piano keys.''
The imagery in this description has been built by the similes used. A reader can liken the color of the beast to the black of a fancy lady's coat and teeth like those of piano keys. As one reads, those two images of a fancy lady's coat and piano keys come to mind.
Ozi's dressing
The author uses descriptive words to describe the clothes that Ozi was wearing. He says that Ozi was wearing a ''... hybrid fashion of make-do invention where rags and riches jumbled together: the dressing gown of a dandy; the cardigan of an old maid; the collarless shirt of a grandfather; the rolled-up trousers of a storm trooper tied with the belt of a clerk’s necktie...''
The author achieves imagery in this paragraph by listing a cloth and the most likely person who would wear it. For example, the cardigan of an old maid, a reader can definitely picture the cardigan in question.
Ozi's Shot
The words ''The shot was muffled in the low, muggy atmosphere, and a tinkling, metallic ricochet threw back the message that he’d missed his target'' have been used in page 2 to explain the shot that Ozi was directing to the beast. The descriptive words 'muggy' and 'low' have been used to describe the atmosphere. The reader can definitely have a mental image of a foggy atmosphere. Other descriptive words that have been used include 'tinkling' and 'metallic ricochet' these are words that have been used to tell that Ozi missed the shot. The reader can associate a tinkling sound because it is descriptive.
Lewi's Vehicle
In page 6 of the novel, the author describes the German car that belongs to Lewis in such detail that the reader can vividly picture it. The car is described as,''A sleek black Mercedes 540K with a British pennant on the bonnet...'' .The author continues to describe it even with its engine system,''its lines and the silky purr of its engine. It was appointed like an ocean-going liner'' In this scenario, the author has described the purr of the engine as silky. He has therefore likened it to the smoothness of silk. It is imagery because a reader can imagine the car based on the description used.
