What do you imagine Newman will do next, after the conclusion of the novel? What kind of life will he have?

Encourage students to think about which of Newman's character traits have determined his actions so far, and how these past choices might provide some insight into his next moves. Additionally, think about the events at the end of the novel, and whether Newman has been changed at all. Think about whether he is the same person at the beginning and end of the novel. What happens to a man who first understands himself always capable of achieving what he sets out to do, and then learns he is not all-powerful?
