The Brides of Rollrock Island Background

The Brides of Rollrock Island Background

The Brides of Rollrock Island was written by award-winning author Margo Lanagan. It was first published during 2009 and was later published during 2012 by David Fickling Books. This fictional novel tells the story of the magical essence of Rollrock island. On the surface, it's a place where poor fishermen and their wives make a living and raise their families among the stormy seas. Yet below the surface, the stormy seas yield magical girls with charm that captivates the eyes and hearts of the fishermen. This is all thanks to an outcast sea witch named Misskaella. Yet the charm of the sea girls comes at a price.

Many readers are impressed with the innovative construction of Lanagan's prose, yet other readers say the story lacks depth and context. Lanagan is an Australian writer who specializes in young adult fiction and short stories. She has several other books published, such as White Time. Her literary talent has earned her multiple awards, including the World Fantasy Award and the Children's Book Council of Australia Award for Older Readers.
