An Exercise in Silence

Objective:
To analyze and experience the theme of silence

Structure:
Silence is a significant theme in the novel. In these final chapters, we come to understand why Reb Saunders subjected Danny to silence for most of his life. We also see Danny start to feel and understand silence in a different way. In this activity, students will also grapple with silence in their own lives in an attempt to see the novel from a different perspective.
