Students will be able to engage with and critique the film adaptation of the novel.

Structure:
Students should watch the 1985 film version of The Color Purple. The movie's total length is 154 minutes, so, if time allows, either have students watch the movie across a few class periods or assign it for homework. You may also choose to show select scenes to students, but they may benefit most if they are able to watch the movie in totality.
