The Foot Book Summary

The Foot Book Summary

The book describes a series of actions taken by one’s feet. In terms of its central figure, the book is illustrated as a typical Seussian dog-like cartoon but is unnamed. They proceed to follow the instructions of the narrator, so when “Right foot” is instructed, the figure puts their right foot forwards.

This story is an attempt to perhaps teach children basic words. Using the concept of feet is relatable as the young audience may just start walking or taking their first steps.

Seuss's narration goes on to describe the different types of foot, such as “Wet”, “Dry”, “High”, “Low” in an attempt to teach children antonyms. Moreover, descriptive words such as “Small”, “Big”, “Black” and “Red” to describe feet is Seuss’ way of stating that there are all kinds of people in the world, but despite their label, they are all simply just “feet”, aka, human.
