    Where Are We Anyhow?

    Objective:

    To better understand both the geographical and socio-political backdrop of Mansfield's stories.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.9-10.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.5

    Structure:

    It is important to understand the backdrop of Mansfield's work, and how the global presence of colonization shapes it. Students will research the time and place in which Mansfield's stories take place and in which she would have been writing.

    Divide students into groups of 4-6 and assign each group one of the topics below for the time period of the late 1800s and early 1900s:
