How is life in Phoenix different for the Walls family? How is it similar to their past homes and ways of living?
The Wallses now have a fixed house that they own, and for a while they have resources, from a good supply of food to art supplies to the bikes. They feel comfortable and at ease where they live. However, Mom and Dad haven't changed: they burn through money, Dad loses his job, and they live in a way that adheres to their ideals but puts their children at risk. As such, many parts of their life remain the same: the kids, though they don't really know it, are vulnerable, they don't always have enough food, and Dad drinks heavily and can't work.
