We learn the most new information about Tom. Both Jim and Tom allude to his writing poems in the warehouse washroom, the first concrete evidence of his penchant for poetry. Tom also confides to Jim that he has paid dues for the Merchant Marines, which retrospectively explains his costume at the start of the play. Amanda becomes ever more theatrical, this time dressing herself in the costume of her constant reminiscence and changing her style of speech when Jim enters the scene. She also shows more fully her impatience with Laura's shyness. At the same time, we see the extent to which Laura is truly terrified...
