Why does Anna support the relationship between Tommy and Marion? What is the nature of that relationship?
It's unclear whether the relationship is romantic or just intimate; certainly, in a book that frequently mentions sex, there is no mention of Tommy and Marion sleeping together. However, they are very close and interdependent. Anna seems to understand it as a relationship between two people who have been unhappy and are finding a sense of purpose and connection with each other (in addition, of course, both have been hurt and in a way rejected by Richard). Anna tries to make them aware of each other's needs and desires, but she seems hopeful about their connection.
