Thick as Thieves
We watch as Martine and Louis walk along the edge of the church roof as the adults that are meant to be watching them are aloof below on the ground. The imagery reveals that the kids are left alone to their own devices without the supervision they may actually need.
Wine
We watch as Martine makes wine by crushing grapes and then tells Louis that she'll add rum to make it 30 proof. This imagery shows us that Martine is a young lady that knows things about the world that you wouldn't expect her to at this stage in life. She's grown up past the innocence of a 10 year old even though her stature is still that of a little girl.
Drop Off
Louis gets off the bus in the middle of seemingly nowhere. And the Grand Highway drop off point shows us what Louis is feeling: he doesn't want to be left in some isolated place where no one lives all summer. He wants to not have to endure being away from home.
Bathroom
Pelo's wife has just left after trying to get Louis out of the bathroom. We watch as Pelo tells Louis it's safe to come out of the bathroom, which the young boy does holding his stomach. The imagery reveals to us that Louis' adventure to the top of the church roof caused him some serious stomach problems. And Pelo tells the little boy to stop trying to impress girls it will only cause the same thing to happen over and over again.
