The Gray Man Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The Gray Man Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The symbolism of intelligence

To symbolize intelligence, the author uses the character Court Gentry. Court Gentry is the most intelligent operative in the entire CIA because he never misses his targets. The CIA has not come across a person like Gentry because he is extremely gifted, and it has flagged him as the number one asset of the CIA. Court Gentry understands how the CIA operates, and he manages to hide and execute his assassins as a private operative.

Lloyd is a symbol of psychopathic behavior

Lloyd symbolizes psychopathic behavior while working as a CIA agent. Lloyd is arrogant and violent and sometimes disobeys the orders of his bosses. Accordingly, the CIA agency later kicks out. Lloyd expresses his frustration and joins the Laurent Group to work against Fitzroy and the Gray-man. In his revenge mission, Lloyd kidnaps Fitzroy, and he gets on a mission to kill the Gray Man. However, Lloyd’s efforts fail terribly. Therefore, even after the CIA agency sacks Lloyd, he continues with his psychopathic behavior.

The symbolism of advancement

The outgoing Nigerian President who gives orders to kill Gentry symbolizes advancement. Court Gentry is unaware that he is involved in a very dangerous business involving powerful people who want to manipulate Nigerian Oil Company to increase their wealth and shareholdings. When the heads of a French controlling company get information that Gentry has killed the cabinet member, they recruit Lloyd, a former CIA director, to hunt for Gentry and kill him on sight because he is a hindrance to the business deal that succeeds. Consequently, powerful people can do anything to get what they want, even if it involves killing people who stand in their way.
