    Analyzing Film Adaptation

    Objective:

    Students will be able to analyze the strengths and limitations of film as a medium of translation for the novel

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.1.C; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.2

    Structure:

    Screen selected scenes from the 1968 film adaptation of the novel, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, directed by Robert Ellis Miller, being careful only to show them scenes from the portions of the book they've already read.

    Instruct students to take notes during the screening, paying special attention to the differences between the film and the novel.
