The End
Virginia Woolf is seen drowning herself in the beginning of the film. We watch as she ends her life and it leads into the life of Laura, Richard and Clarissa. From this imagery we see the ripple effect upon the lives of those, some yet to be born.
Choosing Her Weapon
Virginia has an idea for her first sentence and goes upstairs to write. We see her hand fiddle a bit amongst pens in a cup. The imagery shows us that Virginia is choosing which tool will best suit her ability to get out what is inside of her mind. It reveals that every little thing matters in her quest for writing this novel.
Boxed In
Woolf appears framed by the glass door to her husband's printing room. The imagery closes her in as she is only seen in one pane of the glass upon the door. It represents her feeling shut in, and just after this image she tells her husband she is going out for a walk.
Cracking Eggs
Clarissa is upset about Richard dying while Louis is there. She is cracking eggs and when she tells Louis the book should have had more of him in it we see the image of her sliding a yolk gently into a bowl. The imagery shows us her delicate nature here, her truth budding forth about Louis in this moment of sadness.
Flooded
Laura lies in a hotel bed as water begins to rush out from under the bed to drown her. The imagery shows that she was going to potentially kill herself, but instead the water woke her up, if only for a few more months to stay with her family.
