The Man of the Forest Themes

The Man of the Forest Themes

Heroism

The book revolves around Milt Dale and his heroic acts throughout book, specifically aimed at saving Helen from a kidnapping. We can clearly see a display of heroism because of the fact that there is one character that takes initiative to plan and execute an act for the greater good of the Western society that he lives in. The moral obligation echoed through the chapters shows that he is saving Helen for selflessly in an attempt to correct the wrong in society.

Patriarchal Society

This book clearly shows a patriarchal society. There is the stereotype damsel in distress, which is portrayed by the female lead Helen. On top of that, the sibling that Helen has is also a female, therefore, echoing how women were seen when this book was written, inferior and helpless. Throughout the book Milt Dale(who himself is a male) get the assistance and consultance of other males to go on a tough, heroic journey, clearly reverberating how men were thought to be stronger and more capable.
