The Neon Bible

The Neon Bible Analysis

The young boy David is traveling in the train, the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Where does he go? Who is he? David tells us the story of his life, since his early childhood, he tells us everything so we can easily investigate his growing up. The first person narration makes the story more interesting and person-aimed. Through David’s eyes we can see the world around him, and find out why he became the shy boy with thousand fears inside his head.

The idea of the story is to show the process of formation the character, to underline the factors which influence it – family, school, relatives, love, and sorrow and lost. David appears to be a mad man, he kills the preacher who comes to take his mother and he doesn’t regret it, he just goes away by the train, his destination is unclear for him but he is convinced that he will be happy there –he will find a job and will make a good money, although he doesn’t even have the education. And no, he is not an ambitious person, he just doesn’t know how the adult world looks like because all his life his Mother and Aunt Mae took care of him and he believed that they will never left him, but they did – Mother died and Aunt Mae left for the job in other town. He was completely lost, and cried like a little baby when he realized that his life is now his problem so he decided that the best way is to start everything from scratch.

It is a story of pain, lost hopes and broken heart. David is a little boy who is afraid of life, no matter how old he is.
