The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012 Film) Quotes

Quotes

Sam : "I had lunch with Craig today."

Charlie : "Oh yeah?"

Sam : "He said he was sorry and that I was right to break up with him. I was driving away and feeling so small, just asking myself, 'Why do I and everyone I love pick people who treat us like we're nothing?'"

Sam : "We accept the love we think we deserve."

Conversation Between Sam and Charlie

Sam has met up with the boyfriend who cheated on her and is now mystified as to why she accepted this treatment in the first place. It has led her to think about others in her life, for example, Patrick, who also pick people who are not worthy of them.

Charlie shows wisdom beyond his years with his reply. He realizes that Sam was dating Craig because subconsciously she feels as though she doesn't deserve any better. This is also true of Patrick who is so grateful that the leader of the football team is dating him that his sense of flattery is overpowering his sense of who and what he deserves.

Sam : "How you doing, Charlie?"

Charlie : "Uh, you know, I don't know. I keep trying but I can't really remember what I did."

Sam : "Do you want me to tell you?"

Charlie : "Yeah."

Sam : "You saved my brother, that's what you did."

Charlie : "So you're not going to scare on me?"

Sam : "No."

Charlie : "Can we be friends again?"

Sam : "Of course...Come on, let's go be psycho together."

Conversation Between Sam and Charlie

After Charlie sticks up for Patrick in a physical altercation with Brad, he expects Sam to be angry with him for resorting to violence, but she is not mad with him at all. She appreciates the loyalty and the extension of friendship to someone with whom he has not actually recently been friendly. She also teases him about his beating up Brad as "psycho" and by saying that they are being psycho together is affirming that they are the same as each other, and part of the team.

Mr Anderson : "You know, they say if you make one friend on your first day you're doing okay."

Charlie : "If my English teacher is the only friend I make today that would be sort of depressing."

Conversation Between Mr Anderson and Charlie

Mr Anderson immediately notices that Charlie is a bit out of place and not destined to be one of the cool kids in high school and tries to give him some confidence and reassurance; they have struck up a friendship, and so he is doing okay. Grateful as he is for Mr Anderson's efforts, Charlie cannot help but only see the depressing side of what Mr Anderson is talking about; other kids make friends with other kids, but he has to make friends with a teacher because nobody else will be friends with him.
