The Piano Irony

The Piano Irony

Flash of Lightning

Flora tells the two older ladies that her mother lost her ability to speak after her dad was struck by lightning right in front of her. Ironically, the truth is that Ada hasn't spoken since she was 6 years old and she doesn't even know why she hasn't spoken.

Read It

Ada arrives at Baines's home and hands him a piece of paper with her request on it, as she wants him to help her move the piano from the beach to her home. Ironically, Baines can't read; she will have to get him to do what she asks by speaking more directly to him.

Taking Ownership

Ada gets her piano back from Baines, who decides to give it back as he cannot bear to continue to see her as he is falling in love with her and she is married. She gets the piano back home, it's her prized possession, but ironically she will not play it in front of Stewart nor will she play it as much as she would normally as she misses Baines.

Piano Lessons

Baines gets Ada's piano and takes it for himself because he wants piano lessons for himself from Ada. Ironically, he doesn't even play the piano. He just wants to hear her play and watch her as he is deeply attracted to her and her music.

No More Lessons

Baines stops the piano lessons that Ada is giving him because they are getting too close. Ironically, Ada returns to Baines and they make love as he wasn't the only one longing. She has begun to desire him as well.
