Robert Angier
An incredibly competitive and insecure man, Angier has dedicated his life to best Borden as the greatest magician to live. His deep-rooted hatred for Borden stems from his feelings of blame in Borden for leading to the death of his wife during one of their magic tricks. Since then, his sole purpose has been to find out Borden’s tricks and replicate them.
Alfred Borden
Unlike Angier who is an aristocrat, Borden is a Professor who finds his way in the world by partnering with Angier in magic shows. However, after they split, Borden becomes a highly skilled magician, much to the envy of Angier, and introduces the ‘Transported Man’ magic trick, which earns him favor among audiences.
Fallon
The twin brother of Fallon and co-accomplice in the plot against Angier. Fallon and his brother use the Transported Man method to trick audiences into believing they have traveled through space, but in reality, the twins assume the position of the other at any one time. Fallon is disguised to be a stagehand and rarely is bought to the attention of Angier, until the very end when they are revealed to have been acting as one person.
Olivia Wenscombe
Initially under the employment of Angier as his assistant, Olivia is sent to spy on Borden in order to learn the methods behind his tricks. However, she ends up falling in love with Borden instead and betrays Angier for him. Nonetheless, she eventually leaves both men, as she cannot handle the constant feuding between the two. It is later revealed that she was the love interest of Fallon.
