Irony of life
Roy Cohn and Joe McCarthy could achieve more than they did. It was said that Roy “was smart and close to the hot center”. The problem was in the fact that he, just like Joe McCarthy, “lacked real cunning”. That was the irony. These two definitely not cunning men were “always accused of” being cunning by the press, because they “looked mean and shrewd”.
The only one kind of hunt
Ike Eisenhower was an exceptional man. According to Nixon, he’d “never had to study for anything, not even war”. He was the man who managed to become “the world’s greatest living military hero without so much as firing a shot or suffering a wound”. The irony was in the fact that “the nearest Ike had ever got to real battle was the White House Egg Roll”.
So called United Nation
Uncle Sam is furious. It isn’t even clear “who Uncle Sam’s friends are”. The French has to deal with one of the most serious crisis in the history of the Fourth Republic and consequently can’t support the USA. Not to mention that all world’s leaders are protesting against the Rosenbergs’ execution. This irony is supposed to mock the concept of the United Nations which is more like Disunited Nations.
