    How does Chauvelin blackmail Lady Blakeney? What does this series of events reveal about her character?

    In Chauvelin's raid of the pub he discovers a letter written by Marguerite's brother, Armand, suggesting that he's connected to the Scarlet Pimpernel. Chauvelin then confronts Lady Blakeney with this letter at the opera at Covent Garden and tells her that he will turn her brother in to the tribunal if she doesn't help him discover the identity of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Lady Blakeney is terrified for her brother's safety and decides she has to do whatever she can to protect him.

    This series of scenes is yet another instance in which the reader sees the conflicting sides...
