How do William and Sal differ in their responses to New South Wales? Why do you think they respond in these ways?
When they first arrive, both William and Sal are afraid of the continent's differences from England and find the place bewildering and frightening. As time goes on, they both adapt to their environment and learn to make the best of it, but they do so with different attitudes and expectations. Sal never grows attached to the place.
