Grenville is a prolific writer of both fiction and nonfiction. Her novel Sarah Thornhill is the sequel to The Secret River and focuses on William's youngest daughter. Her novels The Lieutenant, Lillian's Story, and Dark Places are also historical novels set in Australia. In 2006, Grenville published Searching For the Secret River, a memoir about her time researching and writing The Secret River.
