The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace Summary

The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace Summary

Robert DeShaun Peace was an exceptionally clever man who through hard work did very well despite his background.

Robert DeShaun Peace was born and raised in a ghetto, East Orange, in New Jersey. The Ghetto was filled with crimes and drugs and it was a hard childhood. With his mother, Jackie Peace, working long hours in a kitchen, he barely saw her. His father, Robert Douglas, although he was involved in Robert’s life, was serving time in prison for murder, so he was not there for Robert either. Robert visited his father often in prison. Later his father died in prison. So, during his childhood, Robert had only himself and his dreams.

Despite his background and upbringing, Robert did very well in his studies. He worked hard and was exceptionally clever, even at a young age. He did very well throughout school and, impressively, earned a full scholarship to Yale University. This tells the reader about how hardworking and determined Robert was and how he believed in his dreams and never gave up.

At Yale University, he studied molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Robert Peace graduated with honors in 2002.

After his graduation, Robert went back to his home place to teach at a local high school, The Catholic High School. The high school was the school he went to when he was young. Unfortunately, his hometown caught up with him and made him do drugs. He started dealing drugs too and spent a lot of time in the streets. This is also where he was brutally killed when he was just thirty years old.
