Planet Blue
The first part of the novel, called Planet Blue, is set on a planet called Orbus. The characters refer to the planet as the red planet because of its red dust that is the result of destruction of fertile and green land-the planet is on the brink of death because its resources have been almost completely emptied by the greedy human society. Speaking of human society, it is at its moral and humane limits as well. With extreme technological advancement people have become obsessed with materialism and how their outside shell looks like, with not a lot of thought about the inside. The limits, age limits that is, of sexual exploitation have moved to a point of extreme-example of the case of Pink's pedophile husband. The technological advancement provided for a "birth" of a robot species called Robo Sapiens. It is a type of robot that is meant to evolve, develop consciousness, similar to how humans did. Discovery of the Planet Blue provides a new opportunity for humanity to start over. Of course, those who are able to start over are those who have money and power; others are going to be left to deal with the dying red planet. Planet Blue, as we discover later, is the Earth before the dinosaurs went extinct and humans inhabited it. The novel plays with the idea that the extinction of dinosaurs was man-made.
Easter Island
Easter Island takes place on the island of the same name, a place of the stone heads in the 18th century. It provides a background story of how the stone head, or stone gods, appeared and the ridiculousness of the natives who are trapped there because all the natural resources were destroyed in their making. This part deals more closely with the idea of religion and human greed that is mutual to all, no matter where they come from.
Post-3 War and Wreck City
The last two parts of the novel are connected, one follows after the other without the time jumps, and therefore they can be considered a one part. This part takes place in a fictional future where the Earth suffered a nuclear war and the recollection, consequences and advancement after that war. The setting of this part is similar to that of the first part. In the part Planet Blue we had a society that is living in high technological advancement, whereas this part seems to be at the start and going the similar direction. In the first part, Robo Sapiens were already a part of the society, this part deals with the "birth" of the first Robo Sapiens. This, of course, is in favor of the idea of a repeating past and wastefully given opportunities. Wasted opportunities, because Planet Blue is going in the same direction of a rotting planet, as well as rotting humanity, like the Red planet, which is its predecessor.
