The Valley of Amazement Irony

The Valley of Amazement Irony

The paradox of Violet’s mother

Motherly love is a unique gift from God, and mothers can do anything to protect their children under whatever circumstances. Paradoxically, Violet’s mother violates the motherly principle of love when she decides to sell her daughter, Violet, to a courtesan house to settle her debt with the Chinese Green Gang. The magnitude of betrayal Violet feels towards her mother cannot be expressed or measured. The mother decides to betray her daughter to relocate with her husband to San Francisco.

The satire of Loyalty Fang

Loyalty Fang is depicted as a satirical character throughout the text because he purchases Violet's virginity rights, but he never marries her. Instead, he decides to be Violet's friend for the rest of his life. However, Violet is not barred from falling in love with another man. Later, she falls in love with Edward, who impregnates her, and she gives birth to a baby girl. Violet is unlike because Edward does not marry her because he is already married to another wife.

The irony of reunion

When her mother betrayed Violet, she vowed never to forgive her. However, Violet had her share of tough lives with different men, and she had no option but to remember her mother. When Flora was taken away from Violet, she understood why her mother sold her and went to reunite with her son in San Francisco. After getting depressed, Violet called her mother, and they forgave each other.
