    Trumper was a shallow person who couldn't fulfill his commitments. He was a jealous man and an overprotective father. He doesn't share his feelings with others and records his feelings in a tape recorder. He wanted to raise his son Colm in a stimulated environment. He was very protective about his son but Trumper couldn't hold responsibilities and he was an insecure person.

    Tulpen thinks that Trumper is not honest with her. She considers him a layered man who hides things from her and pretends certain things. She was of the view that Trumper might be a shallow person who appears to be layered in front of others. Trumper hides his feelings from others and tries to stay away from others because he doesn't want them to know anything about his circumstances.

    Biggie and Trumper were living in very difficult circumstances. Their limited financial status compelled Biggie to let go of her career. She had to take care of the baby without the help of Trumper or any other person. Along with this, she worked in a hospital. Trumper feels that Biggie is suffering because of him because the job of a cleaner in hospital was not suitable for her. Trumper also works in two places to meet their expenditures.

    Trumper used to keep his feelings to himself. He doesn't not share anything with others. Instead of talking to others, he expresses his feelings on a tape recorder in the form of monologues. He had a lot of recordings in which he used to share his feelings and ideas. Trumper finds it difficult to talk to thers so he often lies or pretends infront of others. Trumper was suffering because of his circumstances along with his wife, who gave up her career of skiing owing to their financial status. His circumstances made him an introvert or a pretentious man about whom Tulpen thinks that he is perhaps a hollow man.
