The Whitsun Weddings is Philip Larkin's third collection of poems. It was published in 1964 and contains many of Larkin's best-loved poems. 4000 copies of the book sold in its first two months, making it very successful commercially. Critics also reviewed the collection favorably. Christopher Ricks, from the New York Review of Books, called Larkin's poetry "a refinement of self-consciousness, usually flawless in execution" (https://www.nybooks.com/articles/1965/01/14/a-true-poet/) and Kirkus called Larkin "the chronicler of Little England."
