We do not learn the last "funny thing" she discovers--perhaps that she really is the woman in the wallpaper? Ask students what they think this thing might be.
In any case, the narrator reveals that the faint figure in the wallpaper is actually a woman who may be trapped behind the bars of the front pattern, who can escape and creep around outside by daylight. The realization is confused, since the bars also seem to strangle anyone who merely gets her head out from behind the bars.
