    Janie and Tea Cake bring out the best in each other and are independent enough to have their individual life, interests, and values. Tea Cake lets Janie talk to who she wants and do what she wants to do; he doesn't control her, and Janie isn't controlling of who Tea Cake is or what he does. However, it is crucial to note the moments where they fight—Janie's jealousy towards Nunkie shows that she wants the relationship to be equally devoted on both sides, and that she is extremely sensitive to the presence of another woman....
