Three Tall Women Quotes

Quotes

"I think you can remember everything; I think you just can't bring it to mind all the time."

B

B says this to A in Act I when A is overwhelmed with emotion at not being able to remember. The statement leads later to our understanding that these are the same women. Thus, the way B encourages A has to do with the way this woman has encouraged herself throughout life.

"That's the happiest moment. When it's all done. When we stop. When we can stop."

A

These are the final words of the play. A tells C that the happiest moment of her life will be when everything is over, and that will only come with death. C will have to endure through what B and A have lived through, there is no way around it.

"Shhhhh. Shhhhh. I don't want to think about that. He came back; he never loved me, he never loved us, but he came back. Let him alone."

A

A says this to B in order to stop her from attacking their son who has entered the room in Act II. Her statement has nothing to do with forgiveness or a reconciliation between the two, but instead with her loneliness. That in the midst of her great loneliness her son, who had been away for decades came back to be with her.
