Why does Cole struggle to figure out what to draw on the last empty space on his totem pole?

Cole appears to be reserving this place on the totem pole for his "anger" carving. Since he clearly cannot carve a literal representation of anger, as he would for a beaver or an eagle, he must figure out what he has learned from his anger (as he thought about when he saw the animals). He expects that after he does his "anger dance" he will be able to figure out what to carve there--he will know what speaks to him about the experience and what he will have learned from his "anger."
