Vladimir Background

Vladimir Background

Julia May Jonas' Vladimir was published in February 2022 by Simon & Schuster. Jonas' novel tells the story of a female English professor whose husband is currently under investigation for his alleged affairs with former students, some of whom have come forward to formally complain. Previously, the couple had an understanding that allowed them to pursue other people outside of their marriage.

However, the very public accusations against her husband has caused both of their lives to be less-than-comfortable. The woman eventually meets a young novelist named Vladimir, who she starts an affair with and falls madly in love with. After she starts her affair with Vladimir, her life (and her husband's life) becomes much more fraught and complicated than before.

Upon its publication, Vladimir received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. In their review of the novel, for instance, Vox.com called Jonas' novel "dreamy" and said that it was "playful and provocative" for a "debut novel." Kirkus Review felt similarly, writing in their glowing review of the novel that "Once this narrator has you, she won't let go. A remarkable debut."
