Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a novel written by David Levithan and The Fault in Our Stars author, John Green. The writing process between both authors was split in half, with Green writing the odd-numbered chapter and Levithan writing the even-numbered chapters. The only thing that they agreed as partners was that their two characters would eventually meet. The story is told from two different points of views. Will Grayson 1 is a heterosexual teenager, while Will Grayson 2 is a homosexual teenager.
The story follows two boys named Will Grayson, the first one lives in Chicago and has a gay best friend named Tiny Cooper. He has a huge crush on Tiny’s friend, Jane, but he does not know if he is going to make it through their eventual breakup. Then there is Will #2 who also lives in Chicago, he struggles with depression and he is in love with a boy named Isaac from Ohio that he met online. His friend Maura occasionally flirts with him, she wonders if he’s gay but he won’t reveal his sexuality. One day, Isaac suggest that they meet somewhere, that place turns out to be a porn shop. Here both Will Grayson’s meet and #2 learns that Isaac was just Maura pretending to be someone else online.
The novel was first published on April 6, 2010, debuting on The New York Times children’s best-seller list, where it remained for three straight weeks. It was the first LGBT- themed young adult novel to make it to the list. The book was also listed on Amazon.com’s Best Books of the Month, April 2010.
