Winter's Heart Background

Winter's Heart Background

Winter's Heart is an epic fantasy novel by American author James Oliver Rigney, famously known as Robert Jordan. It is the ninth novel in the popular Wheel of Time series, which consists of 14 titles. Published by Tor Fantasy and Orbit books in 2000, it explores Rand al'Thor as he grows increasingly distant and cold and the return of winter.

The novel was preceded by The Path of Daggers and followed by Crossroads of Twilight. Like the other titles, Winter's Heart is all over the place and complex. Despite this, the novel continues down the road to the final showdown between Dragon Reborn and Dark One. It further builds on this narrative as new details are revealed. Even though it's a novel in between other novels, it offers a climax that's fitting to the narrative of this specific time in the series.
