Why do you think Jack changes his mind about showing Auggie around Beecher Prep before the school-year begins?

As a reminder of the context: Jack's mom receives a call from Mr. Tushman over the summer, asking him to help welcome a new kid (August) to Beecher Prep. Jack initially doesn't want to do it. He remembers seeing August several years before outside an ice cream shop, and being afraid of how he looked. In fact, Jack and his younger brother Jamie reacted so obviously and embarrassingly to seeing August that their babysitter, Veronica, rushed them away and scolded them for being so rude, and Via glared after them as they hurriedly walked away.
